SUMMER COVER SERIES by Izzi Ray

Ok.. I realize that it is now Fall, but that isn't stopping Southern California weather from rearing it's ugly, warm head. So I will continue my cover series until summer stops overstaying it's welcome.

I am particularly excited about this cover, because it is a cover of a cover, and that amuses me.

But in all seriousness, Johnny Cash's version of this Nine Inch Nails song speaks to me so much. It is a perfect example of how artists are so much more than songwriters, players, and singers.

We are storytellers

When I listen to this song, I am transported. It invokes so much emotion, it's almost as if I am living his life and seeing through his eyes. It's songs like this that truly inspire me to dig deeper into the depths of creativity and keep writing.

Here is my cover of Johnny Cash's cover of the Nine Inch Nails song, HURT.

Thanks for listening!

Summer Cover Series by Izzi Ray

Happy Friday!

I’m back with another cover to hopefully brighten your day!

Just the title of this song alone screams summer. :)

A huge part of my musical influence and inspiration comes from women in the music industry who have fought so hard to pave the way for us baby artists. I’m so grateful for their fearlessness so that we can dream and grow (though we still have a long way to go to total freedom in music for women… I will save that for another blog.).

So today’s summer cover is a song by the legendary Chaka Khan who I adore and admire. Duh. She is such a strong and talented powerhouse of a woman who has had a great influence (as well as many others female artists…) on my desire to work hard and grow my vocal capabilities. I grew up listening to this song in particular so It would have been a crime to not include it in this little series. I hope you are staying cool and I hope you enjoy!!

May this video be as refreshing as standing in front of the AC unit… Here is THROUGH THE FIRE

Summer Cover Series by Izzi Ray

Hello!

Over the next few scorching hot summer months, I will be frequently posting “izzified” versions on my Youtube channel (Izziraymusic) of some of my favorite songs that incredibly inspired and helped musically shape my new record! Speaking of new music…. This new project is well on its way and I can’t wait to share these new songs with all of you! Making a record is a slow, tedious, emotional rollercoaster so I want to thank you for your patience and support during this challenging time. The last year and a half or so has been such a journey so I wanted to create some mile markers to bring you along with me.

The first song of this summer cover series was written by Julie miller. I have played this live many times over the last year and it quickly became one of my favorites. Especially the Emmylou Harris version. The words helped instill a sense of freedom and strengthened my faith.

I hope these songs help inspire you!

Share with your friends, you never know who might need to hear comforting lyrics like these ones today!

Enjoy my take on ALL MY TEARS

Here is my version of one of my favorite songs All My Tears, written by Julie Miller. It has brought incredible inspiration during the process of making my third record! Enjoy! Like, Share and Subscribe! Follow me on Social Media to get the latest update on my new project!

1 YEAR by Izzi Ray

Today marks one year of living in California.

As unfathomable as this landmark is to me, I have a clearer head and better grasp on life now then when I lived in Montana. It's been a long hard year, yet the most rewarding and fruitful to date. I have had extreme lows of confusion and simple loneliness, and I have learned so many lessons and have grown tremendously as an artist, a woman, and a christian. I have learned to trust and not worry, I have learned to rely on my faith and test its strength, and I have learned to love on people around me. Strangers and friends. I have had the privilege to meet so many incredible people and just sit and listen to them and I've met crazy talented people who I get to work with! I'm so thankful that God has given me this road to walk. It's windy and steep but it's the road for me, and it brings me peace and pleasure to know that every rock I stumble on is there for a purpose and to help strengthen me.

I still can't see around the bend, but I have seen proof that God always provides.

THE ONE WHO CALLS YOU IS FAITHFUL AND HE WILL DO IT,
— 1 Thessalonians 5:24

ps. New music is coming soon
